The United Soccer League and the Caribbean Football Union established a new long-term relationship today that will help define the game’s future in the Caribbean Football Union’s 31 member states. The broad agreement will expand professional chances for Caribbean players, coaches, referees, and front office personnel in the USL Championship and USL League One.
The two organizations will work together to expand and improve player scouting throughout the Caribbean area, especially at tournaments like the Caribbean Club Championship and Caribbean Cup. The USL will soon organize and disclose specifics of a combine in which chosen players from CFU member nations will compete in front of USL technical staffs.
The USL will assist the CFU in its efforts to create certification programs for coaches, sporting directors, and executives that will enhance professional growth and open the door to coaching jobs in the USL. USL Sporting Director Mark Cartwright and team technical staff will regularly discuss best practices with their Caribbean professional league colleagues. The USL and CFU will investigate prospects for Caribbean referee development inside the USL ecosystem, from the junior ranks to the professional ranks.
“Caribbean football has made tremendous contributions to the USL over the years and this partnership creates an exciting opportunity to augment that legacy,” said USL President Jake Edwards. “We are thrilled to work with the Caribbean Football Union and its members to grow the sport throughout the region and impact our communities together.”
