The Eredivisie champions Ajax have collaborated with Amsterdam-based fashion label Daily Paper to create a collection of clothing inspired by Amsterdam, which comprises a jersey, an anthem jacket, a tracksuit, and a hooded sweatshirt.
Along with key players Steven Bergwijn, Daley Blind, Dusan Tadic, and Jurrien Timber, Ajax tapped Dutch model Imaan Hammam to help introduce the collection, which she narrates in a homage to her city.
The new prematch jersey takes things a step further by honoring Amsterdam’s rich multiculturalism with a striking diamond design inspired by both the iconic ancient gable-ended façade of the terraced buildings that line the streets and traditional African beading.
According to the Adidas, the red, green, and black colors also signify the city’s vast community of individuals with African ancestry.
When Ajax plays in their home or third kit, players will wear the official anthem jacket when they line up before domestic and European games. The same beaded design appears on the sleeve, and the Pan-African concept continues with the Andreas cross, a traditional emblem of Amsterdam (the three X’s that frequently decorate Ajax memorabilia) ingeniously recreated as a Masai shield with crossed spears on the back of the neck.
