I’m pleased to announce that The Town FC, a club I helped co-found, is announcing its intention to develop a professional women’s team in connection with the newly announced Women’s Premier Soccer League Pro (WPSL PRO), which is scheduled to begin play in 2025.
The mission of this team since its inception has been to increase opportunities for local players to play professionally in the Bay Area, particularly for women. While our vision was, and still is, to play in the highest Women’s professional tier in our country, we’re still years away from that becoming possible.
We made a commitment to always be intentional with the decisions we make around our club, and we knew that our goal of fielding a professional Women’s team wasn’t solely predicated on being granted an NWSL franchise.
The timing of WPSL’s announcement to develop a new Division III professional Women’s league was perfect because it allows us to shorten the timeline on the promise that we made. And it allows us to compete in the longest running and largest Women’s soccer system in our country.
Stay tuned for more announcements around the team and some community initiatives we have in the works.
