MLS’ All-Star team makes history with three goalkeepers of African ancestry

This week, three goalkeepers of African ancestry were named to the MLS All-Star squad for the first time in the competition’s history.

This past week the MLS held its annual All-Star game, a second time against the Liga MX All-Stars. MLS’ squad featured all of the big names around the league like Chicharito, Carlos Vela, DeAndre Yedlin, and rising stars like Sebastian Druissi. One unique thing that may have gone overlooked is the three goalkeepers that were selected.

Each of the goalkeepers on the MLS All-Star squad are of African descent for the first time in history. Sean Johnson of NYCFC, Andre Blake of Philadelphia Union, and Dayne St.Clair of Minnesota United were all chosen to represent the MLS in goal at All-Star this year.

The MLS All-Stars took home a 2-1 victory with the home team goalkeeper Dayne St.Clair winning the MVP award.

The 2Cents FC Show’s Amobi and EL were in Minnesota to talk with Sean, Dayne and Andre to highlight the historic occasion, talk goals for the remainder of the season, pre-match hype music and more.
