DEKALB COUNTY, GA – Soccer in the Streets, an Atlanta-based non-profit focused on creating access to soccer for the city’s youth, had the grand opening for its fifth mini pitch location at the Kensington MARTA station this past Saturday.

The pitches, constructed through a partnership between Soccer in the Streets, MARTA and Atlanta United, along MARTA’s East-West line in DeKalb County are providing an a profound opportunity for the local community in the station’s shadow.

“Specifically with this location, since it’s in a truly minority diverse location (African Americans, Caribbean’s, multiple African nations, and Asians) there are so many kids AND adults who are already primed to play the beautiful game” said Soccer in the Street’s Director of Programs, Tony Carter.

“But also with that, we’re discovering within those groups, that we’re starting to engage a demographic that is typically shunned to play a sports…Muslim girls. So this location is already stacking up to be a true home to many that are marginalized for various reasons while also bringing so much more to the table for this location.”

Soccer in the Streets provides free programs for metro Atlanta kids, something that is important for the city since it has been selected as a host city for the 2026 World Cup

There are Station Soccer locations at East Point, West End Five Points and Lindbergh Center platforms.
