In this Special Supercut of Ep. 147, we recap the past few weeks where The Cultureverse has traveled watching the first three matches of Charlotte FC, from the season opener in DC, the inaugural Home Opener against LA Galaxy, and the first 85 Derby against the Home Team here in Atlanta, and at about 38:30, we have a very special interview with Charlotte FC defender (and Charlotte native) Jaylin Lindsey, Charlotte FC’s Director of Business Operations (and Raleigh native) Darrius Barnes, and Southbound & Crown SG Member (and Cherokee native, and Friend of The Culture) “Pancake” Justin Lee!
Before the interview we catch back up with Coach Tony, Greggo, Mean Marc, and Skye as Man United fakes the funk the previous weekend while a certain No. 7 breaks the supposed FIFA all time goals record, and how a conversation with Tampa Bay Tom leads to him deciding to cut his retirement short and declare his return for the 2022 season, all the false sense of security leads to an exit for United from the UEFA Champions League, following Messi & PSG’s exit last week by the hands of Real Madrid and work through Tony’s mic issues discussing how Mbappe would fit in the Real attack.
During the interview with Darrius, Jaylin, and Pancake, we discuss the vibe in the Charlotte community nearing one month into its first season, and the buzz growing now that CLTFC is now live for everyone to see, and where they see the progress in spite of the team still searching for their first ever win. With Jaylin we talk about how it feels as a Charlotte native to represent his hometown team and state at the MLS level, Pancake provides insight on what is the aim for the supporter atmosphere inside Bank of America Stadium, and the crew goes into where does the team go from here with continuing to grow the fan base in Metrolina after breaking the MLS single game attendance with 74,479 fans attending the opener against the Galaxy, and we get into NCAA Tournament picks and if Darrius’ Blue Devils can get one more for Coach K on the way out.
Also included in the show are some of the Culture Cam interviews we shot during the Charlotte pre-game tailgate. In the Episode are our interviews with Ben from QC Royals, LaShawnda, and also noted Arsenal supporter Troopz from the Back Again Podcast, who was also in town for the match.
