In Episode 152, Greggo and Mean Marc are joined by the Shea Butter Ladies Skye and Sylvs as we recap a busy week for The Culture. The kick off the 2022 NWSL season with the Angel City FC debut at The Banc of California Stadium and vibes experienced by the Shea Butter duo throughout that day and weekend, and what such a spectacle means for the future of NWSL, we hit up the still-ongoing Challenge Cup as the final matchup for this weekend is set between NC Courage and the reigning NWSL Champs Washington Spirit.
The Cultureverse then kicks a pivot up to the Pacific Northwest where history was made by the Sounders where they became the first MLS team to win the Concacaf Champions League, beating Mexican giant Pumas 3-0 in Seattle to take the trophy and will become the first MLS to qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup. We debate over what this means for MLS and their outlook, especially in a pivotal year as the league still struggles for a solid TV audience.
In the 2nd half of the show we are joined by TK and review the chaos of the UEFA Champions League semifinal 2nd legs, which saw close calls in both matches, including a miracle comeback by Real Madrid in the dying minutes and resulted in Real Madrid and Liverpool reaching the Champions League Final, giving us a rematch of the 2018 Final which saw Real win 3-1.
